Coming from the incredible mind of Gucci’s Creative Director, Alessandro Michele, we have been given an epic arrangement of timepieces that are not only timeless but brilliant in design. Being amongst the first collection of watches that were designed by Michele himself, the Gucci Grip Watch is an excellent addition to your wardrobe. The design is showcased in a select array of styles that were beautifully captured in a recent still life shoot inspired by Europe’s popular historical jewellery districts and the kitschy interiors of 1970s London. To compliment the unique contrast of the minimal Gucci Grip Watch, the images were shot on film and explored themes of jewel tones, velvet, natural light, and emblematic British interiors.

The ‘Grip’ is apparently a reference to the world of skateboarding and how sneakers stick to the grip tape on a skateboard as well as a reference to the snug wrist fit that the watch provides. These watches were also designed without any definition of gender in mind, staying true to the Italian fashion house’s fluid leaning ethos. One Grip design showcases a yellow-gold PVD case and three windows that indicate the hour, minute and date as well as a yellow-gold bracelet engraved with the classic GG emblem. Another watch style features a steel case and an interchangeable green alligator strap. The G-Timeless Automatic watches are produced with a steel case and black onyx stone dial alongside its steel bracelet and case. The designs can also accommodate an optional 18 carat yellow-gold buckle, a blue lapiz stone dial with bees detailing and an interchangeable blue lizard strap. In other news, Louis Vuitton’s Virgil Abloh has also designed a new watch for SS20 that is expected to be the crown jewel of next season’s watch collection, something any avid collector should keep an eye out for. Read on to find out more.

The highly anticipated SS20 range features colorful silhouettes, some fantastic footwear, and stunning new pieces that are right at the heart of Virgil’s own personal vision. Standout designs for this collection include the Millionaire glasses that will be available in a palette of playful pastels and marble-esque finishes, detailed multi-pocket jackets and coats, and some floral-patterned tops. There will also be a variety of vibrant accessories, like the flower-covered Keepall and the green grass-like soft trunk, that reveals a collaboration of both contemporary and classic designs.

The SS20 collection also provides a colour-coordinating theme in some of the pieces such as the vibrant orange and blue hues seen on a multitude of garments and accessories. Alongside stunning new leather bags (featuring Abloh’s signature metal hardware he introduced to the brand), Louis Vuitton will also be presenting a new line of jewellery. The most notable pieces include a blue ceramic ring and new Cuban link designs decorated with baroque detailing with a wrap-around LV monogram. We have also seen a sneak-peak of two monogrammed mini-bracelet bags for the SS20 collection, ensuring that Louis Vuitton won’t be missing out on the ongoing tiny bag trend. The bags, titled “the bracelet Bumbag & the PalmSprings wrist-bag” will feature chunky zippers, gold-toned metal finishes, and a full monogram print that utilizes the brand’s traditional brown canvas leather. They are rumored to retail for $750 USD each.

Other items to be included in the SS20 launch are two scarves, a pair of racing-inspired gloves, a bucket hat and a striking monogrammed baseball cap. There will also be a pair of chunky dad sneakers that feature a luggage tag attached to the top eyelet - a nod to Louis Vuitton’s design archives. Another highly-anticipated item will be Virgil Abloh’s take on the LV 408 sneaker, that he re-designed in monogrammed blue denim. By combining Louis Vuitton’s design history and classic silhouettes with an altogether modern and vibrantly adventurous aesthetic, Virgil Abloh has managed to take the luxury French atelier in an all new direction, to a place we can’t wait to see.
